Attendance

- No verbal checkouts over the phone or email will be accepted. The student must bring a note to the attendance office before school to receive a pass to leave class early.
- No checkouts allowed after 2:00pm.
- A parent note must be submitted within 3 school days of the student's return, or the absence will remain unexcused.
- Club sports will need to be excused with a parent note. School Board Approved sports will be approved automatically.
- The district will only allow notes from a guardian to be used for self-checkout or non-medical excuses.
- Missing more than 10 minutes of a class period is considered absent.
- Students are allowed up to 5 absences per semester, excused by a parent note. After that, any additional absences will be unexcused unless medical documentation is provided.
September is Attendance Awareness Month, and we want to take a moment to highlight the importance of consistent attendance.
Shout out to our students! Over 1,500 students — about 60% of our campus — achieved PERFECT attendance during the first six weeks of school! We are so proud of their commitment and dedication.
As a reminder, attendance not only impacts learning but also determines eligibility for final exam exemptions. Please note the following important updates:
· Students must have no more than 4 absences in a class to qualify for final exam exemptions (this is a change from last year’s 5-absence limit).
· All students have the opportunity to earn a Perfect Attendance Exemption, which can be applied to any non-STAAR tested class.
We will send detailed information about the exemption process closer to the end of the semester, but we wanted to make sure families are aware of the new 4-absence limit and the perfect attendance opportunity now, so students can plan accordingly.
